The Darkness comics are some of the most exciting comics on the market. With the addition of new characters such as Jackie Estacado and Aram the Foreigner, the series has a very fresh, dark feel to it. It is definitely a must-read for comics fans.
Jackie Estacado
Jackie Estacado is a former contract killer for the Franchetti Mafia. He was recruited at age six. His mother died shortly after giving birth to him and his sister, Capris.
When The Darkness awakens, Jackie becomes a very powerful killing machine. His quest leads him to the Florida Everglades, where he battles with a Russian Mob. This is just the beginning of his journey as he travels to Fort Knox.
As a member of the mafia, Jackie became a ruthless hitman. However, he still has compassion for his family.
At age 21, Jackie inherited his powers from The Darkness. This allows him to see through walls, increase weapon power, and protect himself with protective armor. It also gives him infinite ammunition.
Aram the Foreigner
Aram the Foreigner is a superhuman being with a lot of power and knowledge. He can do many things, including teleport, levitate, and move faster than humans. Despite his strength and abilities, he has yet to be defeated in a fight.
Aram is a member of a tribe of powerful witches. He has also spent thousands of years scouring the Earth looking for the most efficient way to kill the Darkness. But he eventually realizes that killing the Darkness is not the best way to go.
Aram is also a master of close-quarter combat. His Darkness powers allow him to smit entire armies. He also has the ability to hypnotize people and teleport objects.
Gold Goblin
Gold Goblin in The Darkness is a comic book series by Christopher Cantwell and Lan Medina. It is about the former circus freak and current mob boss Norman Osborn.
The Gold Goblin is a costumed character with a shiny golden glider and high tech weapons. This comic is not the same as the Iron Patriot series, but it does have its share of super hero action.
The Gold Goblin is not the first time that Norman Osborn has gotten a superhero makeover. He used to play the Red Goblin in the Spider-Man comics. But he has also gone on to create multiple alter egos.
There aren’t many things that Norman Osborn hasn’t done. His background includes the creation of the chemical company Oscorp Industries with college professor Mendel Stromm. In the past, he’s been the CEO of the company, a mob boss, and a married father of two.
Dark Crisis: The Dark Army
If you’ve been paying attention to DC Comics in the last year, you may have heard about Dark Crisis on Infinite Earths. This event has forced heroes into tricky situations and tested their power. It also provided the perfect opportunity for these heroes to prove themselves.
The Dark Army is the next DC Comics tie-in in the Dark Crisis line. While it doesn’t do much more than that, it has solid writing and is an intriguing entry into the ongoing event.
Damian Wayne leads a ragtag team of heroes in the fight against the Dark Army. They travel through several multiverses to reach the Orrery of Worlds, where the Dark Army is attempting to infect the whole Multiverse. To stop the Dark Army, they need to find a way to break its hold on the Multiverse.
Unholy Union
There’s a reason why the Unholy Union comic is one of the biggest Top Cow/Marvel crossovers in history. The book ties into a very big 2007 event, but it also sets the stage for a much larger change to the Top Cow world. That said, it’s a solid one-shot that’s worth checking out.
Unholy Union is the unofficial issue zero of the First Born saga. While it’s not going to make any fans of Ghost Rider or Marvel’s Avengers swoon, it’s a worthy addition to the collection. It’s a story about a predator and his prey and a little bit of a mystery as to what makes the other half tick.
Adaptations
Adaptations of the darkness occur when an animal moves from a bright light to a dark environment. The sensitivity of the retina increases in this transition. Dark adaptation is also an indicator of the visual acuity of the animal.
Adaptation to darkness involves several mechanisms in the retina. These processes include changes in the size and position of the pupil, the deactivation of the Stiles-Crawford effect and synaptic adaptation of the retinal neurons.
The first physiologic mechanism that contributes to increased light sensitivity in darkness is the deactivation of bleached rhodopsin. Rhodopsin is a pigment in rod cells that is broken down by bright light.
